What is the difference between ADD and ADHD-
ADHD- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is the umbrella term for the neurological mental health condition characterised by difficulty focussing, distraction, hyperactivity and ipulsivity . Under the umbrella of ADHD, you can have one of 3 subtypes-
1. Combined type- This means you have enough symptoms of both inattentiveness as well as hyperactivity and impulsivity. This subtype is the most common.
2. Only inattentive type- Also called ADD. This means that you have more symptoms of inattention (distractibility ,forgetfulness, inattentiveness) than symptoms of hyperactivuty and impulsivity. This subtype is found to be more common in females than males.
3. Only hyperactive type- This means that you have more symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity (restlessness, a lot of energy, lack of filter, impatience) than symptoms of inattentiveness. This is found to be the least common subtype.
Note: Being diagnosed with the inattentive subtype or hyperactive subtype does not mean that you do not have any symptoms of the other subtype. It means that you do not have enough symtponms to score on that subtype.
