A lot of people associate the idea of being assertive as actually being aggressive. However, they are not the same. Assertiveness encourages individuals to stand up for themselves, express their feelings, and assert their rights and boundaries in a respectful, direct way. Assertive communication or messages usually begin with "I" statements. For example- " I need/ I feel/ I would (not) like"
Aggression on the other hand attacks or accuses the other, without respecting their boundaries. The focus is on the other, as opposed to yourself.
