  • What is the essence of depression?

The answer to the question of what the essence of depression is is short and simple: suppressed emotions. Especially anger.

Emotions are directly connected to your life energy. They make you 'feel' alive. The symptoms of depression are mostly connected to the lack of emotions that can flow freely. Feeling down, no energy, fatigue, no lust for life, everything becomes grey, emotionlessness, nothing can make you happy again.

it's all stalled energy, stalled emotions. It doesn't flow anymore, you're not 'in flow' anymore.

If you block one emotion you block them all. You can't single out one emotion, it affects all other emotions. Instead of just blocking one emotion, all emotions start to slow down. They stop flowing and with that, the life force stops flowing.

This blocking of an emotion is not a natural phenomenon. It is man-made. In most cases, you've learned as a child that not all emotions (or even none at all) are unconditionally accepted. Depending on your family values and your cultural values you inevitably start to suppress certain emotions. They either get warped and distorted, or you suppress them altogether.

In theory, the way out of depression is very simple: allow your emotions to be felt again. One by one. It doesn't matter if they are strong and overwhelming or shy and hidden. Accept them all, feel them all. By doing so you take back your life energy.

Beyond this blockage there is usually emotional pain because it's unnatural to warp or block emotions, it goes against your natural system. You are actually overwriting your natural functions, because of some mistaken idea about the emotion(s).

Going through the memory where you started to judge and suppress emotions releases the energy again. You become more alive. Allowing yourself to live again instead of just surviving (what most people do).

While the theory is simple, practice may be tough. There may be strong and painful emotions and memories hidden underneath the blockage. Hence, it takes courage to walk this path.

If you do face the old pains it will definitely set you free and your life force and joy will grow and grow.
